Sharks and Sea Turtles

Whether riding the gulf stream or laying a mound of eggs on a Carolina beach, I find Sea Turtles fascinating. I have not met one in person yet, but I hope to soon.

Turning a shark from scary to smiling was a bit of a challenge. I exaggerated his mouth to form a toothy grin, minimized his long body and tipped his head up in a jaunty gesture. I don't think anyone would find him scary now.

Grinning Stingrays, Axolotls and Gators

My Gator is all ready for a hug. He's even grinning! Do I hear a tick-tock?

Many kinds of stingrays seem to grin, so it seemed natural to add one to my crew. This summer I met a young showoff Ray who begged to be touched and then backstroked his joy all the way across his pond.

Axolotl? I can barely spell this Mexican cutie's name, but I'm captivated by its sweet smile. It's a distant relative of the salamanders that hide under the rocks in my creek.

A Purple Octopus and a Blue Whale

The purple Octopus has just unfurled herself from beneath a coral. She's a shy but loyal friend, and not at all afraid of the huge blue Whale trailing his shadow across her home.

Lobsters and Crabs

Grinning crustaceans! What fun to find one of these happy fellows in the shallows!
